5 Learning Strategies
to Leverage Your
Semester Challenge

1.  UNDERSTAND YOUR STRENGTHS.

"Hide not your talents. They for use were made. What's a sundial in the shade?" -- Benjamin Franklin

At Guideleaders we believe that knowing your unique character strengths offers the best place to create your online course plan. We recommend the Character Strengths Test from VIA Institute on Character. It's free, and it takes only 10 minutes to complete. Once you know what your strengths are, you can lean into them. Making a plan to focus on your strengths, but understanding your weaknesses can be a great strategy to ensure your learning can thrive -- both personally and within a team of cohorts.

2. GOAL SETTING.

"It is the greatest shot of adrenaline to be doing what you've wanted to do so badly.  You almost could feel like you could fly without the plane."  -- Charles Lindbergh

Your journey to a successful course experience begins with a strategic plan. Guideleaders supports you in matching your learning style and strengths with a multi-week plan. This is your personalized learning plan (PLP). Work/life balance remains one of the greatest priorities of your decision to succeed as a student. That's why Guideleaders helps students with prioritizing time allocation. Often to make the time needed for studying, we help students track their time.  Our routine with embodiment creates the extra-curricular experiences that reduce stress and increase focus.

Your priority pie -- something that each student develops for themselves -- includes more than just the classes and work commitments, but a balanced approach. That's why Guideleaders Social Network experience includes group embodiment, study halls, and discussion sessions with your learning cohorts.

You set your goals, Guideleaders helps you achieve them.

3. PLAN FOR HAPPINESS.

"There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle." Albert Einstein

Taking on the challenge of additional coursework to an already busy schedule can be stressful. As part of your Personalized Learning Plan, we recommend making a list of all the things that make you happy, including people, music, places, food, etc. Success by itself represents only one dimension to your overall happiness -- setting yourself up for joy, finding time for fun, and knowing what you like can build happiness.

At Guideleaders, we practice 'appreciative inquiry' as a process within our Learning Circle experiences. From journaling things that make us smile, to sharing our appreciation or gratitude for events unfolding in our community, family, or work; matching your learning goals with a 'happiness factor' will help each step of the way in your online coursework.

4. ACCEPTANCE AND FLEXIBILITY.

"In spite of everything, yes, let's!" -- Vincent Van Gogh

Despite our best laid plans, we often find ourselves confronting frustrations and obstacles blocking our path.  These vary from balancing work/life demands to unexpected family situations or financial stresses.  Given the immediacy, we can become anxious and impulsive, unable to see clearly.  Bombarded by conflicting analysis, memories, and images our mind can shut down.

But whatever the nature of the situation, we can grow from it. At Guideleaders, we support a philosophy of resiliency. We often discover more about ourselves during the process of overcoming self-limiting beliefs than by any other means. That's why we believe in practicing a flexible and appreciative mindset. We support daily practice of mindful reflection, embodiment, and group discussion to guide learners in accepting new approaches during our journey.  Together, we can.

5. EMBODIMENT, REST, AND REFRESH.

"In the pursuit of knowledge, every day something is added. In the practice of the Tao, every day something is dropped. Less and less do you need to force things, until finally you arrive at non-action. When nothing is done, nothing is left undone. True mastery can be gained by letting things go their own way.  It can't be gained by interfering." Tau Te Ching (525 B.C.)

Each of us who push to create new realities face the limits of time, energy, and stamina. When we're "in the zone" we can accomplish incredible productivity.  But running fast and hard for too long can create stress, too.

Rather than over extending, we need to build a routine that includes recharging.

At Guideleaders, we believe in the power of active napping, siestas, and a solid night's sleep. The 'art' of slowing down.  Paradoxically, to make effective decisions as things speed up in an era of rapid change, we need to to learn to slow down. Join us for our meditation sessions -- opportunities to deliberately focus attention. Like a muscle, each time we practice, we strengthen our capacity to slow our systems and to discover new insights, opportunities, and resilience.

The relevance of Artificial Intelligence TodayArtificial Intelligence is no longer optional – it’s foundational to how modern organizations operate, compete, and innovate. According to McKinsey, Generative AI alone could add up to $4.4 trillion annually to the global economy — but only for organizations and individual that know how to implement it effectively.
From content generation to autonomous decision-making, AI is transforming everything from customer experience to strategic planning. Yet many leaders still struggle to bridge the gap between awareness and action.  Join a Guideleaders Cohort near you to connect with other online learners, an Agentic AI Expert Coach, and peers to learn how an MIT Professional Education course can change your life.
